From West to East: crossing cultural barriers for the Kingdom

Sophia Cuneo from the USA had her future all figured out. She would graduate in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and start her career in the fall. Little did she know that she would actually be heading to the other side of the world.

Sophia explains,

“In January I began to have doubts about starting my career. I realized that God was challenging me to take a break. I felt He wanted me to do something else and I explored opportunities with several missions organizations. In February I received a message from my Aunt, Amanda Porter who works for Pais England, to take a look at the Pais Movement. I figured, why not? In the months to follow, I saw God work in amazing ways to provide my visa, all the support I needed, and an enormous amount of encouragement.

I have been in India over a month and a half and the experience has been great. It has been overwhelming at times learning about a different culture and language and having just about every aspect of my daily routine changed.  Yet, since I have been here, I have grown so much.

God has been teaching me a lot about trusting and relying on Him, which has been hard, but wonderful. I have been able to learn so much about His love, who He really is, and having Him lead my life. I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone, meeting new people all the time and attempting to use some words from their language (that I can’t pronounce correctly!). I have been able to try amazing food, see a country that is truly beautiful, and meet some of the most joyous people I have ever known. I am excited to see what else God has in store for me here and what He is going to do through the Pais Project.”
